English class
I have been trying to restructure my English class. I’ve tried to get them to read more, and write more, but it is such a battle. I don’t know how to do it. Maybe if I had those books that Mrs. Dunham used about Sam, then maybe the kids could read and understand. Please pray that I can help my students to learn to like reading.
Plumbing Honor
We are making cassava this week. It is hard for the school to make it because we don’t have the equipment. But we will manage.
Yesterday I practiced my plumbing honor. There is a guy here from KY that is putting in some more plumbing in the village. And I went yesterday afternoon to help them clean and glue. It was fun.
Yesterday I took part of the dining hall apart. I figure I’m not going to get a new one until the old one falls apart. But I just took out the center post. That was holding nothing up. But it still isn’t going to fall over quite yet, we need a hurricane and then it would fall. We are cutting boards for it, but between the chainsaw being broken and the rain, and money, progress is VERY slow.
Well I have to go to farm.

Mission trip from DIIC
Two Sabbaths ago I got to go to Paruima falls. It was so fun, and refreshing.
Yesterday James took Byron and me on a short business trip. It was a beautiful flight.
The kids really want to go on a mission trip, but I can’t imagine them getting their acts together. But they need to. Mission trips are such a growing experience for all involved. I plan on putting the kids in charge, but I don’t want them to think that they can go on a trip and then we don’t have money or we can’t get things worked out. I think it would be cool to walk to Kikan, 2 days away, which is way cheaper than boating.
Now I can call you from Paruima for $500 GUD a minute, ($2.50 USD). It would be through the radio at one of the shops in Paruima, and the whole village would hear both sides of the conversation. I really thought about calling you today, but I didn’t know what I could say in 4 minutes, that I wanted the whole village to hear. Plus I thought I’d probably spend 4 minutes trying to convince you that it was really me, and that I was not in trouble!
Tonight Maria talked about how the devil fills our time to prevent us from reading our Bibles and talking to God. It is so true. But where do I say no? They told us before we came here that we would have to say no, you don’t have to say yes to everything. But where can I to say no? What can I not do?
Several weeks ago I dropped my computer and I haven’t had time to take the mud off the bottom of it yet. It will probably still be there when I come home! Then you’ll get to see it. It still works. PRAISE THE LORD!!!

School is a busy place
We have had many people come in and out, and they are helping with projects and finding out if they want to stay. I just got the stuff from David Gates, it was in GT a couple weeks ago but I just got it. Thanks for all the sermons and skirts, I haven’t tried them on yet. Thanks, also, for the can openers.
We are having final test soon and we don’t have a printer! I hate chalk. So I have test to write. Life is busy.
I have decided that Uncle Dan and Auntie Jeanie would be a real asset to this school. She could teach and he could make the farm grow!!
Love you
Karla

Teaching English
I have been teaching the students from a text book, level 5, I think. We went through Nouns, Verbs, and a couple other things. Things I have either forgotten or haven’t learned! I decided that this semester is going to be different. I don’t think that learning about nouns is really going to help them. Writing and reading is REALLY going to help them. So I’m going to fight with them all semester to get them to write. Please pray for me that I’ll succeed in my battle!
I found a book “Scholastics composition” or something like that. It focuses on writing different things. I think I’m going to using that book this semester. Correcting their papers is hard, their English is so poor. I just have to get them to read more so that they can recognize proper English.
